Sprinkled with love

Despite all my efforts to avoid any sort of baby showering this time around my sweet friends would not allow it....I am truly blessed with some of the sweetest friends ever....My bestest friends from high school surprised me with the sweetest, most delicious brunch....I felt so blessed and thankful...there might have been ugly, happy, thankful tears....I stole most of the photos from my sweet BF's blog;)

Jaimee printed out all these sweet prayer cards for us to pray over Cayson...I adore them and to top it off they were attached to adorable bowties with a matching bow for Isabella.

So thankful for all these beautiful girls...so many miracle babies among this group!

My sweet fam...minus sis Heather..

Baby #2 must haves

Thankfully with all my research and help from friends I feel like I registered for and had the best items for baby #1. We knew Lord willing that we wanted more children in our future so we also tried to plan ahead for baby #2 and buy things that would make adding onto easy....here is my list of the essentials and things we needed to purchase for sweet Cayson's arrival. I can say they have all been purchased and he can arrive any day after Tuesday when Dr. T gets back in town:) But not a day before then ha! My full registry post can be found here. I plan to reuse all of the items on that list and these are my additional needs..
Infant Baby Monitor- we bought this monitor knowing it would be easy and convenient to just buy the additional camera...you can add up to 4 cameras on one monitor...I know I will be that mother with her kids on the monitor until they are old enough to care...probably when headed off to college...haha...I kid...we had a cracked screen so that was our full intention but we ended up having to buy a full new one with 2 cameras but if you were lucky it is so easy to spend less than $100 to add a camera onto your existing Summer Infant monitor....we love this monitor, it is touch screen, has night vision, a talk back mode so you can talk to your sweet baby from the other room, and a zoom in feature-to make sure your baby is moving/breathing-the crazy nervous mom that I am loves this feature:)

Mattress- This has been by far the best deal on an Organic mattress that I have found...it is the perfect firmness and even has a toddler size...we have the same one for Isabella and love it

Mattress pad-like the mattress this is the same one we had for Isabella and was the best deal on an Organic cover as I could find

Sound machine-Isabella loves, loves her Sleep sheep and lamb and when I saw this adorable owl I knew this is the one we needed for sweet boy...Isabella from very young learned how to turn it on and change the sounds...it also doesn't get too loud so I feel comfortable with it right in her bed

Wipes warmer- we have a primary diaper changing station downstairs that we use most often but we do change the little ones diapers upstairs on occasion so an extra wipes warmer and diaper genie have been purchased

Changing pad-like I said above 99% of the time I change Isabella's diaper downstairs but right before bed or when she first wakes up we will change diapers in her room...I think with baby #2 I will probably need to use their rooms more often for diapers/clothes etc rather than take over the office so we are preparing for that

Pack n play-we haven't actually purchased a second pack n play yet but are prepared to once I go back to work...we may need an extra for nap times etc...since when Isabella is not at home she still sleeps in hers but for now we will just use the one we have

Not pictured above is the Rock n Play...I know so many people who have sworn by them and we actually purchased one from a friend...I absolutely loved our swing, boppy lounger and rocker with Isabella but I think this will come in handy for quick traveling etc since I have a busy toddler on my hands and I'm sure short attention span and frequent room changes will continue;)

City select- By far one of our best purchases ever....this stroller is a rock star...I can't tell you how many times I get stopped, complimented or asked about this stroller, especially if you plan on having more than one child this stroller is a must...all we have had to purchase was the additional seat and I also purchased the adorable skate board that attaches to it for when Isabella has her toddler moments and wants down at least she can easily hop on and ride when we need her to!

Bumbo-I needed a new bumbo since I refuse to force our son to sit in a pink one...same goes for our boppy lounger...both of these were life savers for me...I also fully expect Isabella to think she will need to sit in her bumbo, chair, etc after all they are "Mine" :) The boppy lounger is how I was able to shower when Isabella was an infant...she would sleep, play, etc in it happily (usually) while I showered...I made my self shower, get dressed and put on makeup everyday...its how I kept myself sane:)

Car seat-obviously while Cayson is little we will continue to use the Britax Chaperone we used for Isabella but already have this convertible one ready to go for when he is big enough...hopefully he will need it much sooner than our little Isabella. In the meantime it will be Isabella's extra seat in daddy's car where she never rides;) In my opinion Britax far exceeds all other car seats...its durability and safety ratings far exceed its competitors...

These are my anticipated needs so far...I'm sure I may come back with an updated list once brother arrives but I will update along the way...I know there are army men, cars, trucks, trains in our future as well:) All things boy that I must learn!

T-14 days or less!!

Cayson William

I found this post I wrote a while back when we were announcing your name and didn't realize I never finished it and posted it....

Here is the story leading up to you sweet Cayson William and the meaning of your name!

So September 2nd mommy had some excruciating right ovarian/abdominal pain....first thought was maybe I ovulated, maybe a baby implanted (wouldn't that be exciting) but when the pain persisted and didn't go away I started to think maybe a cyst ruptured....so I called my most favorite OB and momma went in for a sonogram.....I secretly was praying and hoping for a baby but what we saw was lots of ovarian cysts with the biggest on my right ovary measuring 2.5x2.3 cm almost an inch by inch:( So I sat down with Dr. Trylovich and we decided with my family history to go ahead and do tumor markers and make sure the cyst was benign.....Dr. T is amazing and sat with me while I waited for my labs to be drawn....I wasn't even emotional yet at this point, I think just kind of in shock. She asked for the results to be done ASAP and she called me that night with the great news that my tumor marker was only 12.6 which is normal (mom's when her cancer was there was 125). We decided to just follow these cysts closely over the next couple months....my next sonogram on October 8th showed that that cyst had resolved but I now I had an ovarian cyst on my left ovary with several small ones. I have been on birth control pills since 21 with never really having normal periods so Dr. Trylovich discussed with me about how the BCP have probably helped keep them at bay....we decided I would either need to get pregnant or get on BCP to see if that would help....She discussed infertility options with me and after talking with Dennis' doctor that week before they felt that IVF may be our only option...they told us our chances of getting pregnant on our own was probably close to 20%...I left that appointment mostly in shock, we have been told this before but God had bigger plans; he blessed us with our sweet Isabella in the midst of infertility visits for Dennis....I left that day with the plan to continue to wean breastfeeding to help our chances of getting pregnant (but did not want to completely wean until Isabella was a year), had already stopped my progesterone pills and was obviously sad, emotional and tearful but I had this unexplainable hope.....I had this strange feeling that, that wasn't going to be God's plan. I had, had a dream the week before that we were pregnant with a little boy and I just held onto God's promises and what I felt the Lord was saying to me.....Dennis and I discussed our options and plans and decided we wouldn't seek any infertility treatments until January. So time came and went and when I went in for my next follow up sonogram on November 19th (I accidently missed my appt on November 12th-I'm sure it was a God thing)....I was having tons of right ovary pain so I was thinking I probably had a cyst there....let me just say the Lord is amazing.....I had been doing ovulation kits with no positives but at the sonogram the technician said it looks like your right ovary ovulated not once but twice (long winded, long story later but in my 20s there was concern that my right ovary didn't develop fully inutero so this was a huge blessing too)...it could be a cyst that ruptured but it looks like ovulation to me....Dr. T completely agreed and sent me home to work on making a baby....we had lots of sweet family and friends praying for us...and God answered......I took lots of pregnancy tests over the next several weeks...I just had this feeling I was pregnant...my face had broken out (similar to Isabella), I missed my period...and finally on Decemeber 1st I got a positive pregnancy test right before going to see "Catching Fire" with some friends...I couldn't concentrate....oh Lord you are good, thank you, thank you, thank you....I couldn't even wait to come up with a fun way to tell your daddy I was so excited and in such shock...I couldn't believe it....when he got home from work in the middle of the night that night I came out of the bathroom with 3 positive pregnancy tests....we hugged, we cried, and we prayed and begged God for you!

We went in for our blood work to confirm our pregnancy, my Hcg doubled over the 2 days like it was suppose to, my progesterone level elevated just as it should....when we went in for our sonogram at 7 weeks though we could hear a heart beat but were unable to see that sweet heart beat...it was very surreal and unsettling but Dr. T reassured us that since we knew when I ovulated it was probably just too early so she pushed my due date by about 10 days and had us return in a week for a sonogram. She sent me away stressing not to worry but of course we did....it just caused us to be on our knees even more that week and pray and beg God for you....when we went back in a week it was a nice strong heart beat...still not sure there is anything much sweeter than seeing a healthy heart beat on a sonogram...

Your daddy and I still even while not pregnant continued to play the name game...I would text him names and he would say thumbs up or thumbs down....we knew we wanted William as the middle name after your sweet Popi and Great Papa....we also assured your sweet Papaw in heaven that we would keep having babies until we had a son to carry on the McDonald name (within reason of course) ;) That was our promise to him...we are so thankful you are a sweet boy and get to carry on the McDonald name...we know your sweet Papaw smiled so big the day of our gender reveal:)

William means protector....I can't think of a more fitting, important meaning for a man's name...
Cayson means brave...another extremely strong meaning for a man....

BRAVE PROTECTOR

Raising a boy to be a loving, Godly man scares me way more than raising a daughter...I have such a strong desire for you to love and know God and to one day lead your wife and family!! I feel such a responsibility to train you and teach you how to treat women and others. Being a husband and father is such a huge responsibility and we are already praying the Lord stirs your heart for Him....

Other names we considered for you...your daddy was very difficult for boys names and Cayson and Elijah were pretty much his favorites....but we did consider Crew William, Isaiah, Conner, and Caden...apparently we liked C names:) But once we said Cayson WIlliam several times we were both so settled on it very early on....especially when picking your name I would practice saying it like I was introducing myself in a job interview ha....I wanted it to be strong, manly and confident!

I think there is so much significance behind names and we put a lot of thought into you and our little Isabella's name...we pray daily that ya'll truly know the love and grace of our Heavenly Father....we love you so much sweet Cayson W and can't wait to hold you in our arms in a few short weeks!

DIY Plank Wall

Ever since I got pregnant the first time I have always said that if we had a boy I envisioned a plank wall behind the crib....the husband never questioned it once and took on this project with gusto when we found out we were having a boy this time.....here are the quick easy steps....hoping to finish up the nursery and will have to update this post with finalized pics:)

First, we collected pallets....we found ours from different new housing and construction areas...none of our local stores (Home depot, Ikea, or Costco) will give away pallets anymore they recycle them now. We had a sweet friend collect a ton for us in her under construction new neighborhood....we preferred newer pallets for bug/sanitary reasons....

Our full collection

Then my sweet husband used this tool (a Sawzall) to remove the boards from the pallet....it was way easier than trying to pry nails off....

He is a genius and spray painted an area on our grass to match the wall size to make sure he had enough wood of varying sizes...

Then he power washed them with bleach water to make sure they were very clean (if you are using very old wood or barn wood I would recommend treating it for termites-just a suggestion)

Then the staining process began...he stained all of the pieces with a walnut stain (I wasn't able to help much since I am 7.5 months pregnant at this point) but he did amazing and didn't complain once

His little helper

Then he hung them...he used a nail gun to nail them directly to the wall...we chose not to paint the wall behind the wood but if seeing white behind your wood will bother you I would recommend painting it a dark color...I like the distressed, unfinished, imperfect look so we kept ours white...

Not sure what this mask is but he had to wear it to finish the wall haha!

Pretty excited about how it turned out...I will share final nursery pics when it is complete....the rocking chair should arrive today then just need a few last minute finishes....
